PRIMES ENGINE

The work is a directed-energy 'weapon' that emits strong sound waves and laser light (electromagnetic radiation) rapidly propagated in a special gas inside a metal shipping container.
The main goal of the project was create a vehicle that enable experience foundations of reality and tests limitations of computing by dealing with the largest know prime number. The installation produces a very high radiation in several modes having different frequencies (wavelengths) and polarizations based on digits sequence of the largest know prime number.
The installation is also a gas chamber or altar upon which offerings or sacrifices are made for secret purposes. From socio-historical point of view this suggests references with gas chambers from Auschwitz Birkenau - largest extermination camp where was sacrificed millions of lives for the dogmatic Nazi belief system.

Details

Primes numbers are integers that can be divided only by 1 or itself. They are atoms of reality because each number is made up of prime numbers multiplied together.

The project use the largest known prime number

2power43112609 - 1

This Mersenne number is the largest integer that is currently known to be a prime number. It is really large number that has 12978189 digits (for all of the digits pls download this file).

Prime numbers synthesis. Unique sequence of digits from the prime number M is transformed and directly synthesized to sound, light and gas radiation. The whole system is controlled by original software that I developed and coded using Supercollider and Python.

Gas construction. We prepared new type of gas using ingredients as iodine, synthetic cocaine and others. The gas structure uses relations that occur between digits in the largest prime number M.

Sound composition is created by exact real time sound synthesis of digits sequence from number M using Supercollider. The sound waves achieving a very beautiful ordering and high radiation in order to concentrate power.

Light ordering. The light beams are creating a very condensed string passing through chamber connecting two subwoofers placed in the corners of the container. Each end of light tube is focused to spots directed to the center of each subwoofer and audio system.

Human Brain Extensions. Very high and low frequency of electromagnetic, photonic and chemical radiation influencing the brain system of participant. We use 25-33 Hz and 14000-19000 Hz frequencies in order to concentrate power of radiation. 2-3 min being inside the container effects strong psycho-physiological reactions - interferences with human brain waves, hallucinations combined with the state of deep brain relaxation and coherence.

Social and historical aspects. Gas chamber as altar. Consistent immersive installation in the form of gas chamber looks as an altar upon which offerings or sacrifices are made for secret purposes. The container adjacent to an old Polish gas factory. Audience can see warehouses, waste incinerator with high chimney. As for gas chambers Poland has had the black history e.g. Auschwitz Birkenau - largest concentration and extermination camp built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. This camp sacrificed millions of lives for the dogmatic Nazi belief system.

Future research. Integer factorization or prime factorization is the decomposition of a number into smaller non-trivial divisors, which when multiplied together equal the original integer. The factorization of large numbers is very hard problem because there is no efficient, non-quantum integer factorization algorithm. For randomly chosen large primes numbers even the fastest prime factorization algorithms on the fastest computers can take enough time to make the search impractical. The number of digits of the primes being factored increases, the number of operations required to perform the factorization on any computer increases drastically. The presumed difficulty of this problem is at the heart of widely used algorithms in cryptography (RSA and others). Many areas of mathematics and computer science have been brought to bear on the problem, including elliptic curves, algebraic number theory and quantum computing. Primes numbers are fundamental - a greatest unsolved problems in mathematics deals with primes numbers and their distribution e.g. Riemann hypothesis.

Gil Kuno is an artist based in Tokyo and Los Angeles. Through experiments in the audio-visual and re-envisioning experiences common within everyday life, Gil's aim is to push people away from paradigmatic thinking. He takes a whimsical approach in subverting common perception of reality. Exaggerated perception and derailed reality are central themes to his work. He has received recognition from Ars Electronica, Japan Media Arts Festival, Canon Digital Creators Contest, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Laforet Sound Museum, World Wide Video Festival, Timothy Leary, among others. His recent work, "Six String Sonics, The" ranked second place in a public survey held by the Japanese Government for "Top 100 Japanese Media Art Works". This resulted in an exhibit at Japan's largest contemporary art museum, The National Art Center, Tokyo. Gil has exhibited/performed at: Castillo de Rivoli (Italy), Museums Quartier Wien (Austria), The National Art Center Tokyo (Japan), The Hammer Museum (L.A.), Torrance Art Museum (L.A.), Fuji Rock Festival (Naeba, Japan), Laforet Harajuku (Tokyo), The Melkweg (Amsterdam), Schouwburg (Rotterdam), The Sprawl (London), Liquid Room (Tokyo), Womb (Tokyo), Milk (Tokyo), New Wight Gallery (L.A.), Code (Shinjuku, Tokyo), Core (Roppongi, Tokyo), Warp (Tokyo), Heaven's Door (Tokyo), Rockets (Osaka), Loft (Tokyo), among others.
